With respect to "All God's Critters Got a Place in the Choir" and all that, we like to control the rodent population in the barn where we keep grain for the horses and llamas. Here are the standings... (Click on the entrant name for photo.)

Today's song is Ray LaMontagne's "Allie, You Should Be A Married Woman Now." I don't think it's on an album, but it's incredilble as a live bootleg.

I hate applying for money. Writing biographical statements makes me feel like a prostitute. (And these awards don't pay nearly as well as that would.) Why can't they just recognize my intrinsic, unstoppable brilliance and give me the money, no questions asked?

Today's song is literally the meeting of all opposites. This song is a true state of union.
Utterly amazing, passionate, sexy, surprising beats mixed with light, semi-philosophical vocal babbling.
Let me just put it this way: you could dance vertically or horizontally to this disc. Buy it.
Today's song is Joan Baez' "Diamonds and Rust" off the album of the same name. It's about Bob Dylan, whom she once dated.
I am neither a conversative nor a liberal. I am sick of the entrenched left and right establishment. I am for legitimate, common sense-based consistent policy that has the welfare of the entire planet at heart.
Here are some current attitudes that don't make any sense to me.
Thanks to everybody who's gently kicked my ass verbally, or via email, to remind me that Soul Meets Blog has had a 'down' week.
I've had an 'up' week--mad-manic-accomplishment-up--in preparation for my upcoming trip to visit Joyful in Seattle, the world capitol of "Would you like a cute, cultured man to go with your perfectly poured, leaf-patterned cappuccino?"
Here's a fun thing from this past week; this is a real fortune cookie fortune. You don't even have to add the words "in bed" to this one.

I'm sure this fortune has a perfectly legitimate meaning; however, I know I'm not the only innuendo addict out there.

Juno is an electronic megalith. "Navras" is from Labyrinth. They add incredibly layered orchestral-trance to various world, classical, and choral music with a few well-inserted quotes from movies or television. I've worked many an all-nighter listening to this band.

So, I've been working on this poem for this year's Pride service at Arlington Street Church. Last year I got to read "Blood and Leaves."
This year, I've written something a little different.
Today's song is Moby's "My Weakness" from Play, and "Love Theme" from I Like To Score. No lyrics.
I’m dressing in the dark
I don’t know why
no matter which way I arrange it
I keep putting my left foot
in my right shoe,
or why it snows in April,
wind whipping surprised trees
into a frenzied tattoo, buds wishing
they could crawl back inside
their branches. I don't know
why the clay chimes clack
outside the sliding door,
a shrill chorus,
or why I’m waiting
for something other
than this unexpected
Spring chill to hit me.
Today's song is "Out to Get You" from James. It's from their album Laid.
I woke up to the swaying of the houseboat in the gentle swells of Lake Union. The rising light and the sounds of rain, my sister preparing for work, and cats--three of them--jostling for food and attention forecast a perfect Seattle morning.

Another double selection today, the up and down of the "system." Today's songs are from The Postal Service's Give Up. (One of my favorite albums of all time.)

There's a splinter in my mind this morning. I woke up convinced that 'modern, civilized life' has become a highly-evolved prison. As I age, I shed more of my sacred cows (although I no longer slaughter them ;)
Two days ago I was riding in my sister's Caravan. We'd just exited the Skagit County Tulip Festival (more on my trip to Seattle coming soon.)
The clock read 11:11.
My first girlfriend ingrained in me the habit of making a wish at such times. I'd only ever had two wishes before Sunday in my whole life: 1) to be hopelessly, eternally in love with and beloved by an equal partner, and 2) enlightenment. Sunday, I realized I have a third wish. I want to be free.
Right now, I am not.
